Couple weeks of racing in this column.
The races held on August 4. The races got started about a
half hour late when a rain storm Under heavy skies, we got all but a few laps
of the Figure 8 feature in.
Paul Pelletier and Dennis Strickland again had a great
side-by-side battle in the Super Late Model feature. Pelletier took home his
fourth win of the season. “The race with Dennis was a good competitive race. We
only touched one. I’m going to make this quick so we get more races in before
the rain comes. I want to thank my sponsors, Fraza Forklifts, Dusty's
Collision, Exotic Automation, First Impressions Cement, ABC Plumbing, Berringer
Law, Duane's Roadrunner's and my family and crew and all the fans for sticking
it out tonight.”
Lori Bunge-Hall finished a career high ninth.
Rich Frantz was victorious in the Street Stock A division
feature, his second win of the season. “.Actually, the car wasnt that great,
but it also didnt fall off very much in the feature, so i guess that made it
look pretty fast. It's kinda cool to get fast time and win the feature. Gotta
thank my crew, Nick and Shannon, and my sponsors,,,Playoffs Sports Bar &
Grill, Rose's Head & Engine, Eagle Graphics & Design. I also need to
thank Dave & Dave Jr. at Arnold Motorsports, they are a huge part of why
this car is working so well this year.”
Billy Earley won the rain shortened Figure 8 feature.
Unfortunately I haven’t been able to catch up to him for a quote because he
didn’t race last weekend. I’ll try and track him down on autograph night and
get his quote.
August 11......
Rob Moore won his first win of the season. “It’s been a
crazy season with mechanical issues and all but feels good to win as always.
Want to thank my sponsors Beyond Reality Tattoos, North American Iron and
Metal, Jerry’s Ace Hardware, Dicarlo Martial Arts and Dow Egines. Want to thank
my dad and brother (Tim) for all the hard work on this car and my wife and kids
for putting up with it ... lol ... this.
I also want to thank Grant Hedges (fast qualifier) this week for giving me the
good starting position, he's a good dude to race with. And all the fans that
fill the seats. Hopefully I can get more of these.”
Billy Cronce finished a career best seventh. “Yeah to date
that was the best finish and the first time we qualified in the top 10. My crew
chief Scott Marshall really put together a winning setup. No sponsors as of yet
but my girlfriend Jennifer Geberdt got us tires this week.”
Steve Chartrand had his best finish in quite a few years in
the A division feature “It was my best finish for a regular night. I finished
fifth in the 100-lapper in like 2005 but yes best finish in a long, long time
and for a regular night. Pretty excited, I’m ninth in the points ... we were
last after getting wrecked opening night. We’’ve never finished in the top 10
in points.”
It was a match race for the Street Stock B division feature.
A few cars experienced problems in the heat race and it left Anthony Camilli
and Don Roberts. The pair ran side by side for several laps before Camilli finally
took the win. “My only sponsor is Tony’s Tires. I’d like to thank Craig Lange
and Jimmy Little for helpin’ with everything. I’d like to thank my mom and my
baby Angela for their support and giving me confidence. It was a great battle
with Don (Roberts) ... if he didn’t get lose on lap six I don’t think I could
of got him.”
Chris Metdepenningen won the 4-cylinder feature. “The brake
was hanging up. I could feel him back there and only ran hard enough to keep
him back there.”
Gary Cronenwett won his third Figure 8 feature of the season
at Flat Rock. “That was hard work. I like the way we do restarts now. Robbie
and I raced hard and he raced me clean. I want to thank Cathy and Dempsey, my
dad and girlfriend.”
Brian Norton drove Greg Studt’s backup car. Unfortunately he
was clipped in the X early in the race and was unable to finish. It was only
Brian’s fourth Figure 8 race and his first race since 2009.
