Gold Cup night at Toledo Speedway: 'You better have your stuff right'
(TOLEDO, Ohio – July 11, 2014) – The third Discount Tire ARCA Gold Cup Late Model Series race is only hours away and drivers are already talking about the strong field expected to lineup at the Toledo Speedway gates.
“That’s the thing about these Gold Cup races,” driver of the No. 16, Brian Ross, said. “When you come to one, there are so many good cars here. A regular Saturday night race somewhere might have five or six good cars. These Gold Cup races have 20. You better have your stuff right.”
Ross tested at Toledo Speedway in anticipation of the race.
“The car is getting a lot better,” he said following the test. “We’ll get there. I love racing in this late model. I just wish I could do more of it.”
Ross is among a huge lineup of cars for the Discount Tire 100 presented by PNC Bank for the the outlaw-bodied late models. June race winner Dakota Carlson is among those entered in the 100 lap race.
Current Gold Cup point leader Brad Riethmeyer of Mooresville, N.C. holds a 5 point margin over Carlson going into Friday’s 100 lap race. 2013 champ Scott Hantz, Scott Pemberton and Jeff Ganus are the top five in the point standings after two events. Mike Root, Dennis Strickland and Harold Fair Jr. are among the other entries.
In addition to the Late Model action, race fans will see another division in competition on the ½ mile Friday night, as the ARCA Aramark Sportsman will battle in a 35 lap main event. The ARCA R & M Recycling X Cars will compete on the ¼ mile oval Friday night.
The pit area opens at 2 p.m., practice begins at 4, time trials are at 6:15 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. The front gates will open at 4. All tickets go on sale at 4 p.m. race day at the speedway.
Two lucky race fans will also have the opportunity to win a brand new Ram pickup, courtesy of Grogan’s Towne and PNC Bank. The contest will see 10 names drawn and those 10 fans will then be whittled down to two. The final 2 will kick a football from 35 yards, and if the football lands and stays in the bed of the Dodge pickup truck, they are a winner! The contest will take place during breaks in the racing event. .
